The cost of beer in European Championship stadiums is quite high.

EM football aficionados who head to stadiums for a beer-laden experience will need to reach deeper into their wallets than they would during Bundesliga matches. Soft drinks are no exception to the price hike.

Rising ire on social media has surfaced over the drink rates at Germany's upcoming European Championship, with fans spending much more than they usually do for typical Bundesliga games. An initial glimpse of the prices was spotted at the Gelsenkirchen stadium this week. Half a liter of Bier from sponsor Bitburger costs seven euros - encompassing the alcoholic, non-alcoholic, and Radler varietals. Additionally, there is a three-euro deposit for the cup.

In comparison, during regular Bundesliga games, a half liter of beer usually sets buyers back about five euros. The most expensive beer can be found at Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, both with a five-euros-and-a-half price tag. Conversely, the most affordable Bier tickets are sold at Augsburg and Union Berlin games - costing only 4.50 euros.

Soft drinks at the EM are marginally less costly than beer. A half liter of Coca-Cola or Sprite weighs in at six euros. And to quench your thirst with mineral water, that will set you back five euros. Sports journalist Dirk Adam considered the prices "mind-boggling." With distinct rules for each EM stadium regarding their pricing policy, fans have no choice but to swallow the increases.

In an anomaly, at the security-conscious game between England and Serbia on Sunday, Gelsenkirchen will be serving beer with lower alcohol content. This news was shared by the English newspaper "The Sun," quoting a police spokesperson. Contrastingly, the EM organizers conveyed no similar plans for any other group stage game. Anticipating the influx of fans from both nations, Schalke stadium expects a sizable attendance.
