Literary Prize - The Akademie will announce Buëchner-Prize
The German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt will announce today who will receive the Georg-Büchner-Prize in 2024. Then it will be clear who will be the successor of novelist and poet Lutz Seiler. The prize, worth 50,000 Euro, will be awarded on 2. November at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. The prize, which has been awarded since 1951, is one of the most important literary awards in the German-speaking world. Its namesake is the dramatist and revolutionary Georg Büchner ("Woyzeck"). He was born in the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1813 and died in Zurich in 1837.
The jury decided for the writer Seiler in the previous year: He began with poetic verses, found his way to storytelling, but remained a clear yet enigmatic, darkly shining lyricist, according to the justification.
