King Charles III and Queen Camilla - Thank you video and new portrait published
King Charles III. (75) and Queen Camilla (76) honor the Military Day: In an Instagram post, a video was released in which the Queen paid tribute to the British Armed Forces and expressed her gratitude to them: "Our Armed Forces support and strengthen our Nation. They are a source of inspiration, tranquility, and pride - and I greet you all", she said in a message filmed at Clarence House.
At the same time, the latest portrait of the Monarch was also released. In the photo, the King is wearing his "ceremonial uniform of the Field Marshal Number 1 with medals, swords, and orders", as explained in the post's caption. The photo was taken in November of the previous year in the Grand Corridor of Windsor Castle by Hugo Burnand, a popular photographer for the royal family, who also took the official coronation photos.
The King and Queen traveled to Normandy, France, on June 6, to meet with leading politicians and politicians from around the world to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Allied Landing on D-Day.
In her message, Camilla recalled the "incredible bravery" of the troops who liberated Europe from Hitler's regime. "Eighty years later, I know that the same spirit and qualities are still present in our Armed Forces today, as they face a multitude of challenges and dangers in carrying out their duties", she said. "They not only protect the British Isles but also defend freedoms far beyond these shores", she added.
Queen Camilla also remembers her father
The Queen also referred to her own upbringing in her speech and addressed the soldiers and sailors: "I would also like to thank your families, who keep the fire burning at home while you are in action overseas. As a proud daughter of an army officer, I know the impact military life has on families - you are heroes too", so Camilla.
In the Clarence House room where the video was filmed, a picture of the Queen's parents at their wedding in 1946 can be seen. In the photo, Camilla's mother, then Rosalind Cubitt, poses with her father, Major Bruce Shand, before St. Paul's Church in Knightsbridge, London. Major Shand served during World War II with the 12th Lancers and was awarded the Military Cross in 1940. For his service in North Africa, he received another award in 1942. In battles in the same region, he later fell into captivity. Camilla's father died in June 2006 at the age of 89.
