Tennis star Rafael Nadal reveals his impending retirement plans
Generally acknowledged as one of the greatest tennis veterans of all time, Nadal's last event will be representing Spain at the Davis Cup finals in November.
At 38 years old, his last match was during the Paris Olympics, but persisting health issues, which have hindered him consistently throughout his career, have significantly reduced his court time during the previous two seasons.
"Hey everybody, I'm here to announce my retirement from professional tennis," Nadal expressed in a clip posted on social media. "The truth is that these past few years, especially the last two, have been quite challenging. I don't believe I could play without restrictions."
"It's naturally a tough call, one that required some contemplation," he continued. "But in this existence, everything has a start and an end.
"I believe this is the appropriate moment to conclude a career that has gone much further than I could have ever envisioned."
This is an evolving situation, and we'll provide more updates as they become available.
Nadal's illustrious tennis career, marked by numerous Grand Slam titles, will surely be missed on the professional sport circuit. In his farewell, he expressed his love for tennis by mentioning, "I've always loved playing tennis, and it has given me countless unforgettable moments."
