Team without Nübel: Nagelsmann's choice undecided

By tonight, the national coach must submit his 26-player team roster to UEFA for the European Championship, leaving some players behind. Despite the recent match against Greece, the decision remains unclear.

The national team is... - Team without Nübel: Nagelsmann's choice undecided

The UEFA announced their roster for Germany's last European Championship preparation match against Greece, sparking questions about goalkeeper Alexander Nübel prior to the game in Mönchengladbach. The 27-year-old from Stuttgart was absent from the list of 26 players released by the governing body.

German coach Julian Nagelsmann must provide the final 26-member squad for the home tournament beginning on June 14th. He needs to erase one player from the initial 27-member squad. Goalkeeper Nübel, along with Gladbach U21 national team player Rocco Reitz, who was allowed to practice with the A-team during the Euro preparations, are not present in the DFB squad for the last test game before the opening match against Scotland. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that Nübel won't be part of the Euro squad. In the test squad of 26 players, Nagelsmann doesn't need four goalkeepers at Borussia-Park on Friday night. If the coach had eliminated a different field player instead, that would've been a more significant indication of the final Euro squad.

All Things Decided After Test Against Greece

Nagelsmann stated on Thursday that he had decided which player would be cut from his Euro squad already. He would only disclose the identified player's name after the game against Greece.

The relevant player hasn't been informed about the decision yet. Nagelsmann revealed they had gone over "different options," discussing possible choices with his coaching staff. He confirmed the Greece match wasn't significant for the national team selection unless a player was severely injured. Maximilian Beier from Hoffenheim and Robin Koch from Eintracht Frankfurt have been mentioned as the most likely candidates to be dropped. Nagelsmann reinforced that no player deserved to be cut.

Four Goalkeepers in Euro Plan

Nagelsmann had revealed earlier when announcing the provisional Euro squad that he'd go in with four instead of three goalkeepers. These are Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim), and newcomer Nübel.
