Jamal Musiala gave props to Ilkay Gundogan for their shared experiences in the German national team. "Cheers for everything, Captain, it was a privilege for me," Musiala posted on Instagram after hearing about Gundogan hanging up his international boots. At the Euros in Germany and two years prior at the World Cup in Qatar, Gundogan and Musiala were teammates in Germany's national squad.
His Barcelona clubmate, Marc-André ter Stegen, chimed in as well. "Bravo on your international stint with Germany. You're an exceptional player and a strong leader. Proud to have shared the pitch with you for Germany," the Spanish goalkeeper wrote. Other German teammates such as Antonio Rüdiger, Emre Can, or Jonathan Tah also thanked or congratulated Gundogan on his tenure with the German national team.
Despite playing for different clubs, Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan have a shared history with FC Bayern, as both have represented Germany at the senior level. Their illustrious careers also saw them feature together in the German national team at the Euros in Germany and the World Cup in Qatar.
