Indonesia - Talented badminton player from China collapses on court and dies
A 17-year-old Badminton talent from China collapsed during a match and later died in the hospital. Zhang Zhijie fell to the ground suddenly during the encounter on Sunday at the Youth-Asia Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as video recordings showed. Helpers rushed to the field a short time later and carried him off on a stretcher.

According to the Chinese Badminton Association, the young man passed away on Sunday night just before midnight. The clinic does not yet know the exact cause of death, the statement continued. The Chinese Consulate contacted Indonesian authorities immediately after the incident and sent staff to the hall, said Spokesperson Mao Ning.
Zhang, according to the association's statements, came from the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang and was a "standout athlete" of the Chinese youth team. In 2023, he won the title in the Men's Singles at the national championships and made it to the National Team in the same year. According to the state-owned newspaper "China Daily," he started playing Badminton in kindergarten and made it into the team of his home province in elementary school.
