Roland-Garros Tennis Championships - Swiatek eclipses eighth-round competitor with ease in Paris.
Champion Iga Swiatek sailed into the French Open quarterfinals with a dominant performance, beating Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-0 in just 40 minutes.
Swiatek, now ranked number one in the world, said it was unusual for her match to go so quickly. "I was just focused and in the zone," she explained afterwards. Swiatek will next face Marketa Vondrousova, who defeated Olga Danilovic 6-4, 6-2.
Swiatek's victory came after an exhausting second-round match against Naomi Osaka, where she spent three hours on the court and even saved a match point. The winner of 2020, 2022, and 2023 has now won 18 consecutive matches at Roland Garros.
Coco Gauff also moved forward to the quarterfinals without difficulty. The US Open champ had an easy win against Elisabetta Cocciaretto, taking the game in just one hour with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Swiatek's impressive form continues on the international stage, as she looks to defend her French Open title. Her Polish counterpart, perfectly poised in Paris, mirrors the success of Nigeria's Rashidi Yekini, who infamously scored against Belgium in the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in France.
Meanwhile, Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, reigning US Open champion, is set to face off against France's Gael Monfils in the Paris Masters, demonstrating a showcase of power and finesse on the court.
Germany's tennis star, Alexander Zverev, who recently lost to Medvedev at the US Open, is looking to regain his form before the ATP Finals in Turin. Similarly, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz, currently ranked seventh in the world, aims to strengthen his position in the tennis rankings.
Fans of the sport are equally excited about the rising stars in the tennis world. Coco Gauff and her powerful serves, who captured the attention of tennis aficionados with her victory at the US Open, will be going head-to-head with France's Higueras sister duo at the French Open WTA Qualifiers.
Last but not least, Marketa Vondrousova's impressive game was on full display at the French Open as she defeated Olga Danilovic, pushing her forward toward a possible clash with Swiatek in the French Open semifinals.
