"Suspicious object" causes BVB II match to be abandoned

Things are not going well at BVB at the moment: After Borussia Dortmund's poor game against Mainz on Tuesday evening, the reserve team's match against Preußen Münster has now had to be called off. The reason is a "suspicious object" in the visitors' block. The explosive ordnance disposal service arrives.

The third division soccer match between Borussia Dortmund II and Preußen Münster has been called off due to the discovery of a suspicious object in the stadium, according to the police. "It was an empty plastic tube sealed with adhesive tape. There was no danger to anyone present at any time," Dortmund police announced on X in the evening.

"There was no danger to bystanders at any time. The decision was made in close consultation between the clubs, the referees, the DFB and the responsible police authority," wrote BVB.

The Prussians wrote on X: "A suspicious object was found in the guest area of the Rote Erde." Dortmund's "Rote Erde" stadium is located directly next to the BVB Bundesliga stadium. The match was originally scheduled to kick off at 7pm. The kick-off was initially postponed.

"Until this has been checked by the police, the stadium will remain closed to fans and teams. We will keep you informed," was the initial statement from the clubs. Münster wrote on X a little later that the match in Dortmund would ultimately have to be "canceled at short notice". "An alternative date has not yet been set," Dortmund announced.

The "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" reported that an "explosive ordnance disposal service" was required and inspected the object. A short time later, "the first areas were cleared, for example the media area and the entrance for the players", but the match was nevertheless called off shortly afterwards.
