Surprise team Aston Villa take Man City by surprise

Liverpool FC play at the bottom of the Premier League. This means that a win is an absolute must if they do not want to lose ground in the title race. They succeeded, albeit with problems. Rivals Manchester City are surprisingly left behind.

Liverpool FC consolidated their second place in the Premier League behind Arsenal FC thanks to a hard-earned victory. Team manager Jürgen Klopp's side won 2:0 (1:0) against bottom club Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Manchester City slipped deeper into crisis and lost ground in the championship race.

Klopp and his team had to deal with a new man on the touchline. After a disastrous start to the season, the promoted team fired team manager Paul Heckingbottom and brought back club legend Chris Wilder (56). But the hoped-for effect failed to materialize - Liverpool dominated the game for long stretches despite defensive problems and missed several chances. Captain Virgil van Dijk (37') and Dominik Szoboszlai (90.+4) scored for the Reds, who remain two points behind Arsenal FC at the top of the table.

The defending champions, on the other hand, surprisingly dropped out of the title race. After three consecutive league draws, Manchester City lost 0:1 (0:0) at Aston Villa after a disappointing performance and are now six points behind Arsenal and have had to concede third place in the table to their opponents. Former Leverkusen player Leon Bailey (74) scored the goal of the evening for the surprise team from Birmingham with a deflected shot.

In the clash of the disappointed midfield teams between Manchester United and Chelsea FC, the home team deserved to win 2:1 (1:1) despite wasting chances. Scott McTominay (19th/69th) scored twice for United - Cole Palmer's goal (45th) was not enough for the overstretched Londoners. Meanwhile, Pascal Groß contributed a goal in Brighton & Hove Albion's 2:1 (1:1) win over FC Brentford. The four-time international quickly equalized Bryan Mbeumo's penalty in the 31st minute (27). In the second half, right-back Jack Hinshelwood (52) scored the winner to secure his seventh win of the season.

FC Fulham's 5:0 win over Nottingham Forest was a clear-cut affair. The team led by keeper Bernd Leno celebrated with braces from Raul Jimenez (34/54) and Alex Iwobi (30/73) as well as Tom Cairney's goal (86).
