Tennis retirement for number one - Surprise at Wimbledon: Swiatek eliminated

Iga Swiatek, the number one player in the world rankings, was surprisingly eliminated in the third round of Wimbledon. The five-time Grand Slam tournament winner had to concede defeat unexpectedly to the Kazakhstani Julia Putintseva with a score of 6:3, 1:6, 2:6.

Putintseva advanced to the quarterfinals of the third Grand Slam tournament of the season as a result. In the first round, she had spoiled Angelique Kerber's first return to Wimbledon as a mother.

Wimbledon: Some Top Players Eliminated

With the departure of French Open winner Swiatek, who had never advanced past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, the tournament for the next top player is over. The Belarusian Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka had to withdraw her participation due to injury at short notice. The Czech title defender Marketa Vondrousova has also been eliminated.

Additionally, Wimbledon ended for the two-time finalist Ons Jabeur. The Tunisian lost to Elina Svitolina 1:6, 6:7 (4:7). Svitolina reached the semifinals in the previous year.

Julia Putintseva's surprising victory over Iga Swiatek in the third round of Wimbledon has brought her closer to making a mark on the World number one's lawn in tennis. Putintseva's impressive performance at the Great Britain's International Grand Slam tournament in London has seen her advance to the quarterfinals, following her win against Angelique Kerber in the first round. This victory comes after several top players, including the French Open winner Swiatek, had been eliminated from the tournament. Despite Sabalenka's Australian Open champion title and Vondrousova's Czech title defense, both players were knocked out, leaving an opening for Putintseva to potentially challenge the status quo. Ons Jabeur, the two-time Wimbledon finalist, was also unable to clinch victory, losing to Elina Svitolina in the tournament.
