Tennis retirement for number one - Surprise at Wimbledon: Swiatek eliminated

Iga Swiatek, the number one player in the world rankings, was surprisingly eliminated in the third round of Wimbledon. The five-time Grand Slam tournament winner had to concede defeat unexpectedly to the Kazakhstani Julia Putintseva with a score of 6:3, 1:6, 2:6.

Putintseva thus advances surprisingly to the quarterfinals of the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. In the first round, she had spoiled Angelique Kerber's first return as a mother to Wimbledon.

Some top players out

With Swiatek's departure, Wimbledon for the women's draw is now over for the next top player. The Belarusian Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka had to withdraw her participation at short notice due to injury. Marketa Vondrousova, the Czech title defender, has also been eliminated.

Furthermore, Ons Jabeur's Wimbledon came to an end. The two-time finalist from Tunisia lost to Elina Svitolina with a score of 1:6, 6:7 (4:7). Svitolina reached the semifinals in the previous year.

Julia Putintseva's unexpected victory over Iga Swiatek propels her to become the Lawn Tennis Association's international ranking leader among women in Great Britain, following her triumph at Wimbledon, located in London. Putintseva, currently the World number one in Kazakhstani tennis, continues her impressive run in this Grand Slam tournament, rocking the tennis world.

Despite Germany's Angelique Kerber's return to Wimbledon as a mother, Putintseva's tennis brilliance disrupted her journey in the first round. This setback demonstrated the unpredictability of the international tennis scene.

With Swiatek's departure and the injury of Aryna Sabalenka, the Belarusian Australian Open champion, another top-ranked tennis player who was already out of the tournament was Marketa Vondrousova, the Czech title defender.

In her quest for another Grand Slam tournament victory, Ons Jabeur, the two-time finalist from Tunisia, succumbed to Elina Svitolina with a score of 1:6, 6:7 (4:7). Earlier in the year, Svitolina had reached the semifinals, adding another challenge to Jabeur's ambitions.

Putintseva's unexpected advancement in this year's Grand Slam tournament raises questions about the current World number one player's dominance, providing hope to other aspiring tennis champions worldwide.
