Supporters of Nuremberg's team launch assault on their own athletes via Instagram
Recent events in the digital realm resulted in a real-life assault on an Instagram celebrity this weekend. This popular individual, also part of the 1. FC Nuremberg's regional league team, encountered backlash for displaying a Bayern Munich jersey on his social media channels during the week. This action has been deemed inexcusable.
On Sunday early morning, a player from the 1. FC Nuremberg's regional league team became the target of unidentified attackers. According to the club, the player was initially threatened outside his house in the evening, and the physical assault occurred a few hours later. Law enforcement promptly initiated investigations.
The alleged victim is 26-year-old Niklas-Wilson Sommer, boasting a million Instagram followers. Three days prior, Sommer uploaded an image of himself wearing a Bayern Munich jersey, which later disappeared from his platform. The club surmised that the attacked was retaliation against the post, claiming the unnamed assailants "exceeded all boundaries." The club vehemently denounced the assault, declaring it inconsistent with their values.
During the 1. FC Nuremberg's home game against 1. FC Magdeburg (0:4) on Saturday, several banners in the fan section aimed at Sommer. One read, "Team pride over fashionable poses. Niklas Wilson, you're a failure, just like the FCB," and another said, "Wilson, get lost, you Bayern fanboy." Previously, Sommer had shared images of himself wearing jerseys of other clubs as well.
Given the circumstances, the club decided to apply for aid to cover the costs associated with the incident. The following are the conditions for the granting of aid: the incident must be proven to have occurred, and there should be evidence of the need for financial assistance.
