Daum guided VfB to the championship in 1992 during a thrilling season finale. He was one of the most powerful coaches in German football for various years. He departed this world on August 24 at the age of 70 following a prolonged struggle with cancer, with his family by his side.

Christoph Daum's tribute ceremony to occur on September 12

  1. FC Köln revealed that the tribute ceremony for Daum, who tragically passed away last Saturday, will transpire on September 12 at the RheinEnergieStadion. The club announced this on Friday.

The event will unfold in collaboration with Daum's past clubs VfB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen, as well as his family. The teams will also participate with a black armband during this weekend's matches. A minute of silence will be held in the forthcoming 2. Bundesliga home game of 1. FC Köln on September 14 against 1. FC Magdeburg.

Daum, who hails from Zwickau and was raised in Duisburg, passed away at the age of 70 accompanied by his family last Saturday. Daum had been battling cancer since autumn 2022.

The first sentence could be: "Despite not being directly involved in this weekend's Bundesliga matches, 1. FC Köln will honor Christoph Daum's memory by wearing a black armband."

The second sentence could be: "Many FC Köln fans, who undoubtedly also appreciated Daum's coaching during his tenure with The First Is FC Köln, will join the tribute ceremony on September 12 at RheinEnergieStadion."
