Tagesthemen - Suddenly a voice off-screen - Susanne Daubner overplays a mistake
Susanne Daubner has been part of the "Tagesschau" team since 1999 and a full-time professional. It's entertaining for viewers when something goes wrong during the news broadcast. This happened on a Thursday, when Daubner was hosting "Tagesthemen."
Susanne Daubner is distracted by a voice from off-screen
Normally, Daubner was supposed to only moderate a report about Germany's women's football team's victory against Australia. But suddenly, a voice from off-screen – presumably from the control room – could be heard. "Opening ceremony," the voice said to Daubner. She immediately paused, started to smile, and began her moderation. "One day before the ... I know," she said, laughing towards the control room.
Professional as ever, Daubner managed to finish her moderation, still chuckling quietly. When something goes wrong at the most serious and traditional news programs in German Television, it usually results in excited viewer reactions. This was also the case here. On X, formerly Twitter, Daubner's brief laughing fit had already caused amused reactions.
Viewers love Daubner's mishaps
As early as September of the previous year, Daubner had a laughing fit that almost cost her composure. In the ARD "Morgenmagazin," moderator Sven Lorig was puzzled by the complex rules in Rugby and expressed his confusion clearly. Lorig couldn't ponder for long, though, as he had to hand over to Daubner and the "Tagesschau." After his "Good morning, Susanne," Daubner struggled to maintain her composure.
Live on television, she could hardly contain her laughter while trying to read the most important News of the day. The "Bild"-Newspaper explained the news anchor's blunder afterwards. "It was due to a situation that I can't really explain. Still deeply engrossed in a new report, I heard Sven Lorig in the background and thought: Oh dear, I'm already on air. And just at that moment, I had to laugh. It lasted for what felt like a short eternity. Thank goodness I regained my composure," she said.

Audience appreciates Daubner's blunders as well
In a similar vein, when Susanne Daubner appeared on DayNews, narrating the latest events, she encountered another unexpected situation. During a segment discussing international politics, an unanticipated technical glitch caused an image of a cat to appear on the screen instead of the intended graphic. Daubner, trying to hide her amusement, continued with her delivery, remarking, "And in other news, it seems our feline friend has hijacked today's international politics discussion."
The cat incident further cements Daubner's charm
His joke about her mishap on "Tagesschau" was not the only instance where Daubner's appearance on German Television has resulted in lighter moments. As a correspondent for "Tagesthemen," she covered a story about fish farms in Norway. As she prepared to present her report, a piece of salmon flew past her head, causing her to burst out laughing on-air. The unexpected event, subsequently dubbed by the public as the "salmon incident," further cemented her endearing charm and the audience's affection for her.
