Stuck scolds Red Bull driver and recommends change

At the Brazilian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez is knocked off the podium in the final meters despite Red Bull's superiority. Former F1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck sees this as a further indication that the world champion racing team should find a new partner for Max Verstappen.

Former touring car champion and Formula 1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck would be delighted to see a new face alongside world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull. For him, an ex-champion in particular would be the ideal candidate for the second cockpit. "I'd love to see Alonso in the Red Bull," said the 72-year-old Stuck in an interview with Eurosport.

At the moment, Sergio Perez is repeatedly criticized as the second driver of the world champion team, Verstappen has scored more than twice as many points (524 to 248). Stuck is also anything but enthusiastic about the Mexican - especially after the race in Brazil, when Perez lost third place to Alonso shortly before the end. He repeatedly drove a slower racing line than the Aston Martin driver, although this was obvious due to Alonso. "I have to say: Is he stupid? Is he blind? With all his skill... but he's not worth his money," was Stuck's verdict on Perez.

Stuck, on the other hand, is enthusiastic about Alonso. "There are a handful of people who I believe can drive at Verstappen's level - and Alonso is one hundred percent one of them. I just think the guy is great." The 42-year-old has caused quite a stir so far this year with his eight podium finishes.

At the upcoming race in Las Vegas on Sunday (7 a.m./Sky and live ticker at ntv.de), Alonso could once again be fighting for a top position after the former Racing Point team seems to have recovered from a massive period of weakness.

According to Stuck, the fact that Perez is still driving for Red Bull is mainly due to the fact that Perez is "clearly number two" and "there is calm within the team". Even if Perez is "doing a great job", the team could improve with Alonso. However, whether the Spaniard will actually be in the car of the fizzy drinks manufacturer any time soon is highly questionable. Despite rumors, Alonso has always emphasized that he wants to stay with Aston Martin.
