Struff misses final in Sofia
Jan-Lennard Struff still has to wait for his first ATP title. At the end of the tennis season, the man from Sauerland missed out on his third final this year with a 3:6, 4:6 defeat against Jack Draper from Great Britain.
The 33-year-old Struff had gone into the semi-final as the favorite, but had to admit defeat after just under an hour and a half. The unseeded Draper had also defeated Maximilian Marterer from Nuremberg in the first round of the tournament. The hard-court tournament in Sofia is endowed with 562,815 euros.
Struff had reached the finals at the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid and in Stuttgart this year, but lost in each case. He was in top form before injuring his hip, having to take a long break and having to withdraw from Wimbledon and the US Open, among others.
Despite his strong performance this season, including reaching the finals in Madrid and Stuttgart on the ATP tour, Jan-Lennard Struff failed to clinch his first title in Sofia, losing to Jack Draper in the final match of the hard-court tournament. Struff, who hails from Sauerland, faced tough competition in Sofia, with unseeded Draper also defeating German player Maximilian Marterer early in the tournament.
