- Struff loses first game after Olympic withdrawal

Jan-Lennard Struff lost his first tennis match after withdrawing from the singles competition at the Olympic Games in Paris. In the first round of the Cincinnati Open, the 34-year-old Davis Cup player lost 6:4, 4:6, 3:6 to Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Struff withdrew from the singles competition at the Olympic Games in France two weeks ago due to concern over a longer absence due to a hip injury. Last year, the German number two had to take several months off due to hip problems.

In Paris, Struff continued to compete in doubles with Dominik Koepfer, as the strain was lower and the court distances were shorter. The two German professionals lost in the Olympic quarterfinals to the Australian duo of Matthew Ebden/John Peers.

Despite the setback at the Olympic Games, Struff had planned to participate in the upcoming ATP tournament. Regrettably, his performance in the Cincinnati Open indicated that the injury might still be hampering his performance in singles events.
