Strong Sinner wins opener at ATP Finals
Italian Jannik Sinner has made a successful start to the ATP Finals. The local hero won the opening match of this year's event for the eight best tennis professionals of the year against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas by a clear 6:4, 6:4, thus taking a first step towards the semi-finals.
In the second match of the first day, defending champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia and the young Danish star Holger Rune, who is coached by Boris Becker, will meet in the evening at 9.00 pm (Sky). Alexander Zverev will not be involved in the action until Monday.
The Olympic champion will face Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz from Spain in his opening match at 2.30 pm (Sky). His other opponents in the preliminary round are the two Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev.
Sinner was the more dominant player right from the start in the packed Pala Alpitour in Turin. The 22-year-old served well and did not concede a single break point in the entire match.
Tsitsipas, on the other hand, who had started the match slightly weakened, lost his serve once in each set and had to concede defeat after 1:25 hours. Sinner converted his first match point with an ace and was loudly celebrated by the Italian fans afterwards.
Jannik Sinner's dominant performance extends in the ATP Finals, as he clinches his second victory in a row against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the ATP Finals, following their opening match where Sinner triumphed 6:4, 6:4.
The ATP Finals will witness a rematch between Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the upcoming stage, as they both aim for a spot in the semifinals of this prestigious tennis tournament.
