Ström gives the all-clear after a terrible fall
Norway's ski jumper Anna Odine Ström falls in Engelberg and remains motionless in the outrun. Late in the evening, she gives the all-clear. It is not yet clear how seriously the 25-year-old has been injured. Further examinations are to follow in Norway.
Norwegian ski jumper Anna Odine Ström has spoken out for the first time after her serious fall in Engelberg. "Alive, but that's it," Ström wrote on Instagram with a photo showing her left knee in a splint and a crutch that had been put down. The world federation Fis reported a knee injury that has not yet been specified. Further examinations are to be carried out after her return home in Norway.
The 25-year-old fell brutally during an attempt at 122 meters in the second run on Friday and then lay motionless in the outrun for several minutes. Several rescuers rushed to help and then transported the 25-year-old away. The spectators and athletes fell silent, and there was no atmosphere at all during the subsequent final of the jumping competition. At least Ström does not appear to have suffered any other injuries apart from the knee.
After the worrying incident, the Norwegian federation announced that Ström was conscious and waiting to be checked over by a doctor. Ström had lost his right ski after landing and crashed headfirst into the snow at high speed. Olympic champion Severin Freund spoke as a TV expert on ZDF of a "really bad fall". It is "always difficult to watch something like that when someone can no longer go out on their own. I hope she gets better soon," said Germany's top athlete Katharina Schmid. The three-time world champion from Planica initially broke off the ongoing interview in the outrun and appeared to be on the verge of tears.
