"More and More People Setting Sail: What's Available to Stream This Week.

"Céline Dion - The Rise of a Diva"

The singer recently thrilled with her Eiffel Tower performance at the Olympic Opening Ceremony in Paris: As a supplement to the overwhelmingly open Amazon Doc "I Am: Celine Dion," a doc in the Arte-Mediathek is now available, titled "Céline Dion - The Rise of a Diva" (online until September; TV broadcast on July 31, 17.00). In the Prime Video Doc, everything revolves around Dion's life after she publicly announced in late 2022 that she has the rare neurological condition Stiff-Person Syndrome. Viewers are close to the artist, who tells her story honestly and unfiltered about her suffering but also radiates hope. At Arte, it's all about Dion's breakthrough 36 years ago. "The Documentary looks back with much humor and empathy on the legendary Eurovision Song Contest, which Céline Dion won in a thrilling final, and shows how her performance for Switzerland laid the groundwork for her world career," explains Arte. The evening of the ESC in Dublin 1988 is told like a crime story, as the Canadian won with just one point lead. It also deals with the development story of the girl "with an old-fashioned look and crooked teeth into a goal-oriented Popstar" as well as the slow love story with her manager and later husband René Angélil, who died in 2016 at the age of 73.

"Somehow and Anyhow"

A cult series returns: "Somehow and Anyhow" by Franz Xaver Bogner is currently available in the ARD Mediathek. Every Tuesday, there are two new episodes with Sir Quickly, Effendi, and Auto-Sepp, brilliantly played by Ottfried Fischer, Robert Giggenbach, and Elmar Wepper. In 1968, they dreamed of rebellion, love, freedom, and adventure, but at the same time fought with the quirks of their everyday lives, which often seemed provincial to them. The lovingly and wittily staged stories also contain memories of Bogner's own youth, in the Munich area of the 1960s, which he once called the best decade: "On the one hand, we were young, on the other hand, it was the right music. Everything had the touch of upheaval. And there were the most beautiful cars. In the 1970s, everything became more civilized." The twelve episodes, which quickly gained cult status and made Bogner famous, are available for 30 days after broadcast, the first two episodes until August 22.

"Simple"

"Simple" is a very special series from Spain: Ángels, Nati, Marga, and Patri are four young women with intellectual disabilities and live in Barcelona. They enjoy living independently. But when they are threatened with eviction, their caring social worker Laia has her hands full trying to solve their problems. This is not easy in a society that has set the rules without considering the interests of the young women. The conflicts that arise are as comical as they are dramatic. Based on the Spanish bestseller "Lectura Fácil" by Cristina Morales. Now available to stream in the ZDF-Mediathek."
