Track and Field Events - Steeplechaser Krause earns silver at the European Championship in Germany.
The German Athletics Association has updated its ranking for the European Championships in Rome, now placing hurdler Gesa Krause as the runner-up. Initially, Gesa Krause was listed as the winner after French athlete Alice Finot was disqualified for crossing the track boundary multiple times after the water jump.
But after a successful protest by the French federation, Finot was eventually declared the winner of the hurdles event, replacing Krause in the official results. This change happened around midnight in the stadium and was also confirmed by the German federation in their report on the race at the Olympic Stadium.
Finot was later recognized as the winner of the race at 0:25 am on Monday morning, with her finishing time being 9 minutes and 16.22 seconds. Krause, who regained second place with a time of 9:18.06 minutes, was happy to secure a medal after giving birth to her daughter while making her comeback. The planned official ceremony to announce the winners on Sunday evening was canceled due to the uncertainties created by Finot's initial disqualification.
