Denmark - Start of Roskilde Festival 2024: party, peace and punk rock

To the English language:

The 52nd time, the Roskilde Festival site in Danish Roskilde is opening its gates once again. In 2024, alongside musical headliners such as PJ Harvey and Belle and Sebastian, the Foo Fighters will also pay a visit to their fans. The gig scheduled for Friday is sure to be seen as the musical highlight of the overall eight-day party.

The range of acts covers Hip-Hop, Alternative, Metal, Electro, Pop, Folk, and Punk-Rock genres. More than 14 hours daily go on various stages with Who's who of the national and international avant-garde of their respective genres performing.

Roskilde thrives on the work of volunteers

Traditionally, it's not just about music at the Roskilde Festival. Numerous cultural events, art exhibitions, and performances vie for the attention of visitors. Political actions, such as the pursuit of a ceasefire in the Middle East, are given space.

Organized for the first time in 1970 by a few high school students, the event has grown into the largest non-profit festival in the world. There are only a few dozen paid employees – the rest is managed by up to 40,000 volunteers. All profits are donated for charitable purposes, with amounts usually in the two-digit million range.

The Roskilde Festival in Denmark, famously known for its diverse music genres from Hip-Hop to Punk-Rock, also hosts cultural events and art exhibitions. PJ Harvey, a renowned musician, will be performing at this year's festival, which is expected to feature performances from numerous international avant-garde artists. Additionally, New Zealand's Foo Fighters have been announced as headliners, promising an unforgettable gig on Friday.
