Star quarterback causes scare in overtime thriller

The Jacksonville Jaguars lose an overtime thriller and - worse - their quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The playmaker suffered a potentially serious injury against the Cincinnati Bengals. His counterpart, on the other hand, experiences an unusual feeling of happiness.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered what appears to be a serious foot injury in the Jacksonville Jaguars' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. During a 31-34 overtime loss, left tackle Walker Little stepped on the playmaker's ankle during a play, causing his leg to twist unnaturally.

Lawrence tried to get up, then dropped to his knees and slammed his helmet on the ground in frustration. He was only able to leave the field with the support of his coaches. While the Bengals' sixth win in their twelfth game of the season gave them renewed hope of making the playoffs after three previous defeats, the Jaguars failed to pull away from the chasing pack at the top of the AFC South.

Lawrence had a strong night until his injury, completing two touchdown passes and scoring a touchdown himself. Only 7 of his 29 throws missed a teammate. According to Adam Schefter, ESPN's NFL expert, Lawrence suffered at least a sprained ankle. Further tests should provide a definitive result on the severity of the injury. Jaguars coach Doug Peterson did not comment on Lawrence's condition after the game.

In place of the playmaker, C.J. Beathard took over responsibility for the Jaguars' offense and led his team into field goal range shortly before the end of regulation time and thus into overtime.

But the man of the evening was Jake Browning, who replaced injured quarterback Joe Burrow as the starter for the second time for the Cincinnati Bengals and won an NFL game for the first time in his career. "Feels good, I definitely had to earn it, even go into overtime. It's been a long time since I've won a game," he said on ESPN. "Just having an extra week of experience made a big difference."
