St. Pauli remain undefeated - promoted Elversberg third
FC St. Pauli have warmed up for the Hamburg city derby and remain the measure of all things in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Fabian Hürzeler's team, still unbeaten this season, salvaged a 3:2 (3:1) win at Hansa Rostock.
The league leaders were initially undeterred by going 1-0 down after Junior Brumado converted a handball (9th minute). St. Pauli turned the game around within eight minutes before the break. Rostock came close again with another penalty converted by Brumado (80') and put the leaders under pressure, but were unable to equalize.
Manolis Saliakas (15), Marcel Hartel (18) and Oladapo Afolayan (23) scored the goals for Hamburg, who are now looking forward to Friday's derby against city rivals Hamburger SV. After 14 matchdays, St. Pauli are three points ahead of HSV with 30 points.
Promoted team still strong
Promoted SV Elversberg continue to cause a stir after their 4:1 (1:1) win over SC Paderborn. Coach Horst Steffen's team really turned up the heat after Luca Schnellbacher (50') made it 2-1 shortly after the break and played themselves into a counter-attacking frenzy. Paul Stock (57) and Maurice Neubauer (60) made the most of the space that presented itself. Schnellbacher's first goal of the day (41') had equalized the visitors' lead through Sebastian Klaas (22') at the first break. Elversberg are three points behind HSV.
At the bottom of the table, the dismissal of coach Tobias Schweinsteiger at bottom club VfL Osnabrück did not yet prove to be the hoped-for relief. The team from Lower Saxony also lost under interim coach Martin Heck - this time 2-0 (0-0) against 1. FC Magdeburg. Baris Atik (52) and Luca Schuler (71) scored for the visitors. With just seven points so far, Osnabrück are increasingly losing sight of the non-relegation places.
Following their promotion, SV Elversberg continue to impress in Bundesliga 2, recently securing a 4:1 win over SC Paderborn. Meanwhile, St. Pauli, also in Bundesliga 2, have been unbeaten, even managing a 3:2 victory over Hansa Rostock, maintaining their lead in the table.
