Sports court bans ex-football boss Rubiales for three years

The former president of the Spanish Football Association, Luis Rubiales, has been banned for three years by the country's sports court for his abusive behavior at the Women's World Cup award ceremony and improper conduct. The court confirmed corresponding media reports on request. A one-and-a-half-year ban was imposed for the kiss that Rubiales forced on world champion Jennifer Hermoso.

A further one and a half years was handed down for grabbing his crotch during the World Cup final, reported Iusport, a portal specializing in sports law. Just over two weeks ago, FIFA had already imposed the same sentence for the kiss.

The 46-year-old Rubiales had kissed Hermoso on the mouth on August 20 in Sydney after the World Cup triumph of the Spanish women's soccer team. The player then emphasized that this had happened against her will. Rubiales says she consented. It was expected that Rubiales would appeal against the TAD's decision.

Rubiales' behavior had caused months of discussion, during the course of which Rubiales lost his position as president of the RFEF soccer association. The team's sporting triumph faded into the background.

The ban on Rubiales for three years in soccer-related activities highlights the importance of upholding justice in sports policy. Despite Rubiales' claims of consent, his inappropriate actions during the Women's World Cup award ceremony led to severe consequences in the realm of sports law.
