Speculation swirls around a potential return of Salihamidžić to HSV.
Around a year since his exit as FC Bayern's head of sports, Hasan Salihamidžić might be back in the German soccer scene. Whispers suggest a club he once played for is eyeing him for a job.
Since he was controversially sacked by FC Bayern just after the soccer championship last summer, there has been little news about Hasan Salihamidžić. That is, until now. Reports indicate he might be set to return to a big stage in soccer and take on a role at Hamburger SV.
According to a piece in Hamburg's "Abendblatt," Salihamidžić is one of those being considered to replace Jonas Boldt at HSV. The 42-year-old's future is still up in the air, as the supervisory board is set to decide on his fate at the Bundesliga franchise this week.
Boldt under scrutiny
Boldt is facing some tough questioning again. He must offer a solid explanation on why HSV missed the cut for the Bundesliga. He also needs to put forward a reasonable plan on making it happen next season. If his justifications aren't up to scratch, he could face dismissal. But according to the "Abendblatt," there's a chance Boldt will keep his job with HSV. In that case, "detailed discussions" will happen with Salihamidžić.
Names like Oliver Bierhoff and Jörg Schmadtke have also come up as potential figures to take over from Boldt. However, lately, Bierhoff has denied any interest in the post. Furthermore, he stated this week, "HSV isn't an issue for me." Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick (the Austrian national team's coach) and Fabian Wohlgemuth (VfB's sports director) are also mentioned as options. There's also talk of a comeback for HSV legend Felix Magath, who's been seen as the favorite of the franchise's wealthy investor and business magnate, Klaus-Michael Kühne (86).
It's unclear if Salihamidžić would even consider a role at HSV. However, he and Hamburg share a history. Like a phoenix rising, Salihamidžić began his professional career with Hamburg in the 1995/96 season. He continued to grow and improve before moving on to FC Bayern in 1998/1999.
With a vast array of options available, it remains to be seen who will succeed Boldt at HSV. Maybe the future will be Bosnian?
