A terrible piece of news has sent Spanish soccer into shock!

The Basque youth player Unax Garcia has died suddenly at the age of 15. This was confirmed by his former club SD Eibar on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. The teenager last played in the youth academy of Club Deportivo Urki.

Particularly tragic:Garcia was found lifeless at home by his mother when she tried to wake him up in the morning. The exact cause of death is not yet known. He is said to have died of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Jesus "Txus" Alzaga, president of CD Urki, told the media: "We are very upset, it was a big blow. We are still stunned." The young central defender was due to play on Saturday. After the tragedy became known, the match was called off by mutual agreement between the teams.

Former club SD Eibar wrote: "The young Unax García, a player from CD Urki who played in our youth team, has passed away. Our condolences to his family and friends."

The sudden death of Unax Garcia, a promising soccer player, has cast a grey pall over the prima división - la liga.
