An Exceptional Journey in Acting and Directing
Lang was born in Erfurt in 1941. After his apprenticeship, he enrolled in the State Acting School in Berlin. He later moved on to the Maxim Gorki Theater in the city, before switching to the Berliner Ensemble in 1969. His journey began when he joined the Deutsches Theater, where he remained dedicated until 1986.
In the last few years of the 1970s, Lang focused more on directing, creating exceptional productions of renowned works, such as Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 1980 and Georg Büchner's "Danton's Death" in 1981. Lang appeared infrequently in DEFA productions, with his most notable performance being his role as the reserved philosopher Ralph in Konrad Wolf's "Solo Sunny," starring alongside the late Renate Krößner. The film was a massive success, captivating audiences around the world.
Lang has been a distinguished member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin since 1986, with the academy recognizing his talents by awarding him the Konrad Wolf Prize in 2020.
