Soccer conduct allegedly tarnished by Albanian athlete.
During the Euro 2020 tournament in Germany, the UEFA had to take an unprecedented action and suspend a player for the first time. The Albanian national footballer, Mirlind Daku, will be sitting out the upcoming two matches. His suspension is not football-related.
The European Football Union, UEFA, has suspended striker Mirlind Daku for two Euro matches. The 26-year-old's behavior after the Albanian team's clash against Croatia on June 19th in Hamburg (2-2 draw) brought disrepute to football. Post-game, Daku was seen before the Albanian fans with a megaphone, and he was later charged with making nationalistic chants.
The Albanian football association will have to cough up a hefty fine of €25,000 to UEFA, as they broadcasted messages that hindered the sportsmanship spirit of a sporting event, according to UEFA. Furthermore, there are fines worth €22,500 for other offenses. Initially, the details of these offenses were kept under wraps during the initial proceedings by UEFA.
Daku will be absent from his team for the final group game on Monday in Düsseldorf against Spain. If Albania gets eliminated, he'll also miss the next UEFA competition match.
