Late arrival for the draw - Snow chaos also slows down national coach Nagelsmann

The snowfall is also affecting Julian Nagelsmann's travel plans. However, the national coach has not been hit as hard as Franz Beckenbauer in 2011. He should be on time for the European Championship draw, which begins at 6 p.m. in Hamburg. However, Nagelsmann will have to cancel one item on the program.

The snow chaos at Munich airport has also affected Julian Nagelsmann's travel plans for the draw for the European Championship preliminary round in Hamburg. The German national coach will arrive late in the Hanseatic city, the German Football Association announced on Saturday morning. However, the 36-year-old is expected to arrive on time for the start of the draw ceremony in the Elbphilharmonie at 6.00 pm (RTL and live ticker on ntv.de).

There was an important draw without the national coach in Durban in 2007, when the then head coach Joachim Löw was unable to fly to South Africa for the draw of the qualifying lots for the 2010 World Cup due to toothache. Franz Beckenbauer once had to cancel the draw for the 2011 Women's World Cup at short notice - there was also snow chaos back then and the Kaiser got stuck, as did Oliver Kahn. Günter Netzer stepped in at short notice to draw the lots.

What Nagelsmann will miss on Saturday

However, Nagelsmann will have to cancel one item on the program on Saturday. DFB sports director Rudi Völler had reported on Friday that he wanted to watch the U17 final of the German juniors in Indonesia against France together with the 36-year-old on the TV set in the hotel to get in the mood for the draw.

Due to the heavy snowfall, flight operations in Munich were initially suspended until probably 12.00 noon. A spokesperson said on Saturday morning that the winter service was working to restore safe operations. So far, around 320 of 760 flights planned for today have been canceled. Rail services have also been affected, particularly around Munich.

In Hamburg, the German national soccer team will draw its three group opponents for the final tournament in summer 2024 (June 14 to July 14). A very challenging group with the Netherlands, defending champions Italy and Austria is possible - but also a supposedly easy task with Albania, Slovenia and a weak qualifier, for example.
