Slot confirms assumption of taking over from Klopp at Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club has revealed that Arne Slot will take over as head coach from the current manager Jürgen Klopp, starting from next season. Slot has been rumored to be the chosen one for some time now, and it's been reported that he has already sealed a deal with the Reds way back in April.

During a press conference, Arne Slot officially announced his departure from Feyenoord Rotterdam and his transition to Liverpool Football Club to coach the team in the upcoming season. Liverpool has yet to respond to this news but is expected to announce an official statement shortly alongside a statement from Feyenoord.

In the meantime, Slot mentioned that he'll be bringing his assistant managed at Feyenoord, Sipke Hulshoff, along with him to Liverpool's coaching staff. It was also reported that Liverpool has paid a transfer fee (the contract runs until 2026) of up to €11 million to secure Slot's services.

The Change of Command

Jürgen Klopp, who has been coaching the Reds since October 2015, will be leaving the club this season. After several years of leading the team, Klopp won various trophies such as the Premier League, the Champions League, and the FA Cup, among other titles. However, fans will have their last chance of seeing him in action as the team's manager this Sunday, as this will be his final game for the Reds.

For Slot, his last game as Feyenoord's coach will also be against Excelsior this Sunday, a league match at home. He led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the previous season (2022/23) and helped them win the Dutch Cup in this season, leaving them in second place in the overall standings. Feyenoord shared their sentiments regarding Slot's departure on their social media platforms, saying, "The Arne Slot Era is coming to an end. Let's enjoy the last moments."

Slot is known to be a "control freak, similar to Pep Guardiola" and expressed his admiration for Manchester City, Klopp's fiercest opponent. The former Feyenoord manager's charisma and leadership style make him popular not only among players and the media but also among fans. As he steps into the Liverpool hot seat, it'll be interesting to see if he can fill Klopp's enormous shoes.
