The world number one defeated the Wimbledon finalist of 2021 in an entertaining and thrilling duel with a score of 7:6 (7:3), 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 7:6 (7:4).

"We are good friends, we play Davis Cup together, we train together sometimes. It's tough that we meet in the second round," said Sinner, who now plays against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.

Sinner had the first match point at 6:5 but made it through only in the tiebreak. Sinner, who had fallen back in the world rankings due to several injuries, was not seeded. In the first round, he defeated Karlsruher Yannick Hanfmann in four sets.

Alcaraz dominates

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz remains undefeated in Wimbledon after a successful second-round performance. The Spanish third-ranked player defeated the Australian Aleksandar Vukic 7:6 (7:5), 6:2, 6:2 and secured his place in the third round. In the third round, Alcaraz faces American Frances Tiafoe.

In the only previous encounter with Vukic, the Spaniard had won the shorter match. The duel took place in the qualifiers of the French Open in 2020 but under completely different circumstances. The then 17-year-old was still number 193 in the world, but now he is a three-time Grand Slam tournament winner.
