In the Austrian town of Kitzbühel, heavy rainfall caused the live broadcast of the ARD's "Schlagerboom Open Air" show with Florian Silbereisen on the First channel to be cancelled. Instead, a pre-recorded general rehearsal from the previous evening aired from 8:15 pm on Saturday.
The beginning of the show featured a message on the screen informed viewers that the content was a recording due to the weather. "Rainfall in Kitzbühel has been intense since 8 pm," said the entertainment director of the responsible public broadcaster Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) Peter Dreckmann in the evening.
"We anticipated this, and on the previous day, we recorded the entire show with 6,000 spectators and audience in attendance in ideal weather conditions," he added. "In order to provide home viewers with a pleasant visual experience, we opted to broadcast the recording from the day before." The ARD plans to switch back to live coverage "if the weather improves and the technology cooperates," according to MDR's statement.
