Christoph Daum, renowned for his passionate coaching style, showing his emotions be it joy, frustration, or sadness, has sadly departed at the age of 70, with his loved ones by his side. He bravely shared in 2022 that he was battling lung cancer.

Daum was a football coaching legend in the Bundesliga, guiding 1. FC Cologne, Bayer Leverkusen, and VfB Stuttgart to triumphs. However, Daum remained an unsatisfied figure in some aspects: his ambition to serve as the national coach, which appeared set in the early 2000s, disintegrated following his cocaine scandal going public.

Bayern Munich chair Uli Hoeneß, who had been Daum's primary adversary for many years, was responsible for spreading the drug rumors. However, their relationship improved in recent times, as they met at Tegernsee to reminisce about the past and discuss their historic rivalry. Hoeneß expressed his sadness upon Daum's demise, stating, "Christoph Daum never shied away from a debate, but we reconciled years ago."

The German Football Association (DFB) expressed their condolences upon hearing about the death of The Commission's former member, Christoph Daum. Despite the past controversies, there were ongoing discussions about inviting Daum to join The Commission again, acknowledging his significant contributions to German football.
