- She's supposed to be on Balmoral vacation.
The British Royal Family, led by King Charles III (75), will spend their summer holidays once again at the Balmoral Estate in Scotland. Even Princess Kate (42), who is battling cancer, is expected to join her husband Prince William (42) and their three children for the break.
Kate's Longest Trip Since Diagnosis
It was unclear for a long time whether Kate would travel to Balmoral amidst her treatments, but now the family's summer plans are set, according to "The Mail on Sunday". The 42-year-old wants to spend quality time on the estate with Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9), and Prince Louis (6) during the school holidays. It will be her longest trip since her cancer diagnosis, it was reported.
In January, the princess underwent an abdominal operation, and it was later revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer, which she announced in a video in March. Since then, she has only been seen in public twice. She attended the Trooping the Colour birthday parade for the King in June and presented the trophy at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July. Most of her recovery time has been spent at her family home in Windsor, Adelaide Cottage, and her Norfolk holiday home, Anmer Hall.
Every Summer at Balmoral
Despite her illness, she seems determined not to miss the traditional holiday in the Scottish Highlands. Since her wedding to Prince William in 2011, she has spent every summer there. Balmoral Castle was Queen Elizabeth II's (1926-2022) favorite residence, where she also passed away. Since then, the estate may hold an even more emotional significance for the Royal Family.
The sprawling Balmoral estate offers the royals the chance to engage in various outdoor activities undisturbed - such as fishing, hunting, picnicking, and barbecuing. The late queen was often seen horse riding or driving her beloved Range Rover.
This year, the break could be particularly necessary for the Royal Family, given the challenging months they've faced: aside from Kate, King Charles also received a cancer diagnosis at the beginning of the year and missed some public appearances due to treatment. The other family members had to take on more engagements.
Prince Harry (39) and Duchess Meghan (43), who stepped back as working royals in 2020 and moved to the US, are reportedly not invited to Balmoral again this year.
Kate's determination to join Prince William at Balmoral despite her illness is commendable, as she has spent every summer there since their wedding in 2011. This will be her longest trip since her cancer diagnosis, highlighting her resilience and love for her family.
Amidst the challenges faced by the Royal Family this year, including King Charles and Kate's health issues, Prince William and his family look forward to their annual break at Balmoral, where they can recharge and enjoy the tranquility of Scotland's Scottish Highlands.
