"Outer Range" - Series with Josh Brolin is canceled
The Amazon Prime Video series "Outer Range" will not receive a third season. According to the US industry portal "The Hollywood Reporter," the streaming service will not be renewing the Western- and SciFi-series with main actor Josh Brolin (56). The second season, consisting of seven episodes, was released nearly two months ago.
Cancellation is a "mistake"
Brolin, who plays the rancher Royal Abbott in "Outer Range," reacted angrily to the news. He described the cancellation as a "mistake" in an Instagram post. "This news never diminishes the outstanding idea, the brilliant cast, and the hardest working crew," the actor wrote. The show revolves around the main character Royal, who fights for his land and family and encounters a mystery in the Wyoming plains.
In the series, Lili Taylor (57), Tamara Podemski (46), Imogen Poots (35), and Tom Pelphrey (41) appeared alongside Brolin. The actor also thanked the "extremely loyal fans" in his message. Actress Olive Abercrombie (13), who plays the young girl Amy Abbott in "Outer Range," shared the post of the "No Country for Old Men" star in her story and added: "Farewell to this strange, wonderful show."
Fans are disappointed
Fans were equally disappointed in the comment section. "Disappointing news. This story deserves an ending," lamented one person. There is also confusion. "How on earth was this show cancelled?", exclaimed another user. A fan, who received support from over a hundred people, described the series as "one of the best shows" he had ever seen in his life.
"Outer Range" premiered in 2022. The second season, which aired on May 16, 2024, was also praised by critics. Given the positive reception, the sudden end of the series has left many surprised. According to the website "Rotten Tomatoes," critics gave the second season a 92% approval rating. In comparison, the first season had a score of 79%.
