Serhou Guirassy changes sides for Borussia Dortmund

Breathing in Dortmund: Doubts about Serhou Guirassy's health status have been put to rest. With the striker's signature under a four-year contract, a key figure has been resolved - and Borussia Dortmund has a new transfer candidate.

The transfer of Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund is perfect after days of waiting. According to the Bundesliga club, the former VfB Stuttgart striker signed a contract until 2028. A failed medical check last week had delayed the agreement with the 28-year-old. As reported by the media, a second examination ordered by Dortmund revealed that the torn outer ligament in his knee does not require surgery. Therefore, nothing stood in the way of the transfer.

"It was important for us, in the interest of Borussia Dortmund and the player, to obtain as accurate a specialist assessment of Serhou's injury as possible. Thoroughness clearly took priority over speed," commented business manager Lars Ricken on the signing. "Now all the facts are on the table, and we are convinced that we have made the right decision with this transfer."

Guirassy, after defender Waldemar Anton, is the second transfer within the Bundesliga from VfB Stuttgart to Dortmund. The Guinean national team player was able to leave the vice-champion thanks to an exit clause in the reported amount of 18 million euros. In the previous season, he contributed significantly to Stuttgart's leap from a relegation candidate to a Champions League participant with 28 goals in 28 league games.

Without Guirassy at the start of the season

The Dortmund newcomer gave a fighting spirit: "Every child interested in football in the world knows this club, knows the black-yellow shirts, knows the Yellow Wall. I am very excited about all of that, about my new teammates. And it's important for me to say: I came here to win titles. That's my goal, that's my motivation."

Due to his injury, Guirassy will likely miss the first league matches of his new club in the cup against 1. FC Phoenix Lübeck (17. August) and a week later in the Bundesliga against Eintracht Frankfurt (24. August). "Guirassy will first undergo an individual build-up program and, according to the doctors' assessments, could still be fit for action in the summer," the club statement read.

After the agreement with the also courted newcomer, Dortmund has Niclas Füllkrug, Sébastien Haller, and Youssoufa Moukoko as alternatives for the attacking midfield. Therefore, Haller, who had to fight many problems and injuries after his cancer treatment, is a transfer candidate.

Furthermore, the Guirassy transfer fuels speculation about a departure of national player Füllkrug, who must fear for his place in the starting lineup at the Champions League finalist. According to "Bild," AC Milan is interested.

Borussia Dortmund's acquisition of Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart, a prolific goalscorer in the Bundesliga, adds strength to their attacking options. Despite missing the initial league matches due to an injury, Guirassy expressed his eagerness to contribute to winning titles with Borussia Dortmund.

In light of Guirassy's signing, Sebastien Haller becomes a potential transfer candidate for Borussia Dortmund, with national player Niclas Füllkrug potentially facing competition for a starting spot at the Champions League finalist.
