Formula 1 - Second Hungarian training: Norris before Verstappen
WM-Leader Max Verstappen missed the fastest time in the second free practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 26-year-old Dutchman finished second for Red Bull at the Hungaroring in Budapest in the late afternoon, just like in the opening session.
However, Verstappen couldn't beat Lando Norris in the McLaren this time. Norris was 0.243 seconds faster than Verstappen on his fastest lap. In the World Championship standings before the race on Sunday (3 p.m./Sky and RTL), Norris is 84 points behind Verstappen.
Third place went to Carlos Sainz in the one-lap session, which was extended due to a crash by Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari. Sainz had set the fastest lap in the first free practice session.
Leclerc's second practice session ended prematurely and with another disappointment. The 26-year-old Monegasque lost control of his car and crashed into the track barriers with the rear. Leclerc was unharmed, but his Ferrari had to be towed away and the session was interrupted for about a quarter of an hour.
There was almost a crash between Guanyu Zhou of Haas and Sergio Pérez in the second Red Bull. Zhou braked, went into a skid, but managed to regain control of his car without touching Pérez's Red Bull. Pérez eventually finished fourth, ahead of George Russell in the Mercedes. Hungary record winner Lewis Hamilton finished seventh in the second Mercedes, while Nico Hülkenberg was 15th in the Haas.

- Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who is currently not in the best form, experienced yet another setback during the session as he crashed into the track barriers.
- The Mclaren Group Limited's driver Lando Norris, on the other hand, managed to outperform Verstappen, setting the fastest lap of 0.243 seconds.

- The record-winning Formula-1 driver Lewis Hamilton, representing Mercedes, finished seventh in the second session, falling behind other competitors.
- In the qualifying order, Nico Hülkenberg of Haas secured the 15th position, marking a mid-tier finish for the German racer in the Motorsport event.
