Schuster gone and Lautern lose again
Even after the departure of coach Dirk Schuster, 1. FC Kaiserslautern still has a result problem in the 2nd Bundesliga. The defeat in Magdeburg was heavy.
Despite parting ways with coach Dirk Schuster two days ago, 1. FC Kaiserslautern have not ended their negative streak in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Saturday evening, the team coached by Niklas Martin and Oliver Schäfer lost 1:4 (1:1) at 1. FC Magdeburg. Luc Castaignos had put the hosts ahead after 17 minutes in front of 25,214 spectators, with Terrence Boyd equalizing eight minutes later. Herbert Bockhorn (51) headed the hosts back in front. Substitute Connor Krempicki (75') and Cristiano Piccini (86'/foul penalty) made it all clear for Magdeburg, who climbed past FCK to tenth place in the table.
Both teams played a high-class game, although there was little in the way of goalmouth action in the first half. Both goals came practically out of nowhere. When Magdeburg took the lead, Silas Gnaka's pass into the area undermined the entire visitors' defense and Castaignos had an easy game. Boyd scored at the other end with a shot from a standing position.
Grammozis new coach?
Magdeburg came out of the break with more drive and passion. The quick lead was only logical. Kaiserslautern struggled to find their line again. The Saxony-Anhalt side, who continued to play aggressively going forward, took advantage of this by scoring their eighth Joker goal of the season a quarter of an hour before the end to secure their first home win after four games without success. Piccini went one better with his penalty.
Before the game, Lautern's sporting director Thomas Hengen neither confirmed nor denied a report in the German newspaper "Bild" that former professional Dimitrios Grammozis would be unveiled as the new coach on Sunday. "We don't comment on names or rumors," said Hengen. However, according to information from "Sport1", Grammozis will be the new coach.
