Team representing the country - Scholz refers to the DFB team as "our boys."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the significance of millions of people with immigration backgrounds in German society, including in the national football team. "We can be proud that this is also reflected in our national team," Scholz said in a speech to the Bundestag. "They are all Germans, they are all our boys."

In relation to over 20 million female and male citizens with immigration history, Scholz reiterated, "They are part of our society. We will not be divided."

Recent criticism from national coach Julian Nagelsmann about the wish for more white players in the national team came to mind. Scholz brought up the issue during a speech on the current security situation in Germany, but made it clear that his remarks about the team were unrelated to the topic at hand. He added these comments "incidentally," as he put it.

Scholz also spoke of the upcoming home European Championship, saying, "Our country will show itself at its best this football summer." Citizens and guests from all over Europe eagerly anticipated the games. Security authorities had prepared meticulously for the event, added the Chancellor, encouraging everyone not to miss out on the football festival. "Do not let yourself be denied the anticipation of this football summer," he urged.
