Schalke 04 starts the season with a goal festival
FC Schalke 04 kicks off the new 2. Bundesliga season with a dream start: They shoot to the top of the table with a 5-1 home win against Eintracht Braunschweig. They briefly had to worry after taking a clear lead, but ultimately it was a one-sided affair.
Schalke 04, a 2. Bundesliga team, started the new season with a clear home win against Eintracht Braunschweig. In front of over 60,000 spectators, the Royal Blues won a one-sided game 5-1 (2:1). A day after coach Karel Geraerts surprisingly appointed Justin Heekeren as the new number one, the goalkeeper became a main character.
In the 7th minute, the 23-year-old prevented a big chance from Rayan Philippe with a foot save, and soon after, he set up the goal for Tobias Mohr (9.) with a long ball. The winger took advantage of Kevin Ehlers' positional error and scored with a chip shot for an early 1-0 lead.
New signing Moussa Sylla (25.) increased the lead from close range with a rebound from a set piece. Braunschweig had difficulty finding their rhythm, but Ehlers (33.) made up for his mistake from the 0:1 with a goal from a corner to make it 1:2. In the second half, Braunschweig was more active but still too careless. Schalke 04 only had to worry about their lead and not about an equalizer: Kenan Karaman (73./83.) and Sylla (82.) scored again to increase the score.
After a disappointing last season, Schalke at least sits at the top of the table until Sunday afternoon. In the afternoon, Hertha BSC (1:2 against SC Paderborn) and World Cup winner Miroslav Klose in his debut as a coach in German professional football both had a poor start to the season. Klose lost with 1. FC Nuremberg after a 2:0 lead 2:3 against Karlsruhe SC.
Next Saturday at 1 pm, S04 will face 1. FC Nuremberg, and Braunschweig will host 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday at 1:30 pm.
Despite the 1-2 deficit in the first half, Schalke 04 continued their dominance in soccer, with Kenan Karaman and Moussa Sylla scoring to secure a commanding 5-1 victory over Eintracht Braunschweig. With this impressive performance, S04 solidified their position at the top of the 2. Bundesliga table.
Schalke's soccer prowess was on display once again, as they controlled the majority of the game against Eintracht Braunschweig, demonstrating their ability to effectively adapt their strategies and capitalize on their opponents' mistakes.
