The singer had previously announced the release of "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" for the summer but without specifying a concrete date. Accompanying the post was a video in the style of a true crime show reporting on the death of Slim Shady, a character long considered an alter ego of the 51-year-old musician. At the end of May, the single "Houdini" was released.

The Detroit-born star rapper, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, last released the successful album "Music To Be Murdered By" at the beginning of 2020. "The Death of Slim Shady" is his twelfth studio album.
