SC Magdeburg wins Club World Cup for the third time

Champions League winners SC Magdeburg have won the Club World Handball Championship for the third time in a row. The German runners-up beat European League winners Füchse Berlin 34:32 (29:29, 13:16) after extra time in the final in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, to lift the trophy, as they did in 2021 and 2022.

The best scorers for Magdeburg, who had beaten Poland's top team Industria Kielce 28:24 in the semi-final, were Albin Lagergren and Janus Smarason with seven goals each. Mathias Gidsel scored nine times for the capital city club, who had eliminated Spanish series champions FC Barcelona 35:34 after extra time in the final round.

SCM collected a prize money of 400,000 dollars for the triumph. The Berliners, who had won the title in 2015 and 2016, received 250,000 dollars. Barcelona secured third place with a 33:30 win over Kielce.

SC Magdeburg demonstrated their handball dominance once again by winning the Super Globe for the third consecutive year, defeating Foxes Berlin in a thrilling final. Despite the efforts of Mathias Gidsel, who scored nine goals for Füchse Berlin, SC Magdeburg's players Albin Lagergren and Janus Smarason each netted seven goals, contributing significantly to their team's victory over their German rivals.
