SC Magdeburg delivers an incredible half-time

The handball Bundesliga remains tight at the top: both SC Magdeburg and Füchse Berlin win their games and remain level on points. Magdeburg delivered a tremendous team performance, while one of the Füchse's shooters produced an outstanding performance.

The duel in the German Handball League continues. SC Magdeburg made an impressive statement in their 43:28 (27:9) win at HSV Hamburg, especially in the first half. However, the Foxes also won 32:27 (16:15) against TVB Stuttgart. At the top of the table, Magdeburg now have the significantly better goal difference compared to their closest rivals Berlin, with the same number of points (30:4). SG Flensburg-Handewitt is third with 26:8 points.

Hamburg were only able to hold their own for ten minutes against SCM, who have now not lost in 25 games in a row, before all the dams broke. The Champions League winners played themselves into a frenzy up to half-time. After the break, Magdeburg took it a little easier. This allowed Hamburg to make the result a little more friendly. The visitors' best scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with eleven goals.

HSV coach Thorsten Jansen was disappointed: "We were at least still within reach up to 6:10. And after that, we just don't score any more goals up front and are below par at the back, I simply have to say that. That's not good enough. Not against any opponent and certainly not against SC Magdeburg as a top European team. And if you go back so lethargically, then you get one after the other," said the 2007 world champion. "Looking at the second half, we can at least leave the arena with our heads held high and not have let ourselves be slaughtered."

"Andersson keeps us alive"

Berlin struggled against aggressive visitors and also made weaknesses in defense and mistakes in attack. Berlin only got into their stride midway through the first half and took the lead again shortly before the break. The home side steadily extended their lead and routinely took the points. "We didn't really get into our defensive game well in the first half and simply gave away too many free shots. We weren't cool-headed enough," said Head Coach Jaron Siewert. "Then we set ourselves a lot of goals, got better at playing at pace and were more composed as a result. It was an exceptional game by Lasse Andersson, who kept us alive." The Dane scored a personal career best with 14 goals.

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt had a successful last home appearance of the year. Head Coach Nicolej Krickau's team defeated TBV Lemgo Lippe by 34:29 (17:13) and, with its twelfth win of the season, kept up with the two top teams in the table. In the last game before the European Championship break, Magdeburg will play FA Göppingen on Friday (7 p.m./Dyn), while Berlin will host SC DHfK Leipzig (8 p.m./Dyn). Flensburg travel to Balingen (7 p.m./Dyn).
