Sánchez revisits FC Bayern post-Leisten surgery

Hit's in the lineup. Coach Vincent Kompany hints at a potential return of national team star Leroy Sané for FC Bayern. Following a groin surgery, the attacking player is back in the squad. Kompany also has a strategy for the upcoming six games.

Bayern Munich can once again rely on influential player Leroy Sané for the next six matches prior to the October international break. The football national team member will join the Munich squad after his groin surgery post-European Championship this summer, making his debut this Saturday (18:30 CET/Sky and live update on ntv.de) in the Bundesliga match against newly promoted side Holstein Kiel.

"He's in the mix," coach Vincent Kompany stated ahead of the final training session. Sané had a tough year so far in 2024. In the second half of the previous season, he played with persistent groin pain. Even at the home EM, the 28-year-old pushed through, but couldn't make a significant impact in his appearances, such as in the lost quarter-final against Spain. Now, he's supposed to be pain-free and in tip-top shape.

"I've learned him as a fighter"

"Leroy had an impressive first half of the season last year and scored numerous points. He pushed through, gritted his teeth, and tried to help the team. I got to know him as a fighter," said sporting director Christoph Freund. Sané's return is also key because his contract expires at the end of the season. His future in the coming months is also at stake.

Meanwhile, Kompany wants to boost their six-point lead with another win in Kiel. "I want us to improve our game even further during this period and emerge strongly," he said about the forthcoming four league games in Kiel, Bremen, against Bayer Leverkusen, and in Frankfurt, as well as the two Champions League matches against Dinamo Zagreb and at Aston Villa. When asked about their approach to the opening match against clear underdog Kiel, he said: "We won't distinguish whether it's Kiel or Leverkusen."

FC Bayern Munich will be strengthened by the return of Leroy Sané for the next six Bundesliga matches, starting against Holstein Kiel this Saturday. Coach Vincent Kompany has highlighted the national team star's potential return, following his recovery from groin surgery post-European Championship.
