DFB Cup - Saarbrücken pull off next coup - Leverkusen also advance

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen and, surprisingly, 1. FC Saarbrücken have reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup.

The third division team from Saarland, who had already knocked record champions FC Bayern Munich out of the competition in the previous round, won 2:0 (0:0) at home against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. Kai Brünker (64th minute) and Luca Kerber (78th) scored for the clear underdogs. Frankfurt's Noel Futkeu was shown the red card in the closing stages after an assault.

Leverkusen completed their compulsory task against second-division side SC Paderborn with a commanding 3:1 (2:0) victory to remain unbeaten in their 21st competitive match of the season. The goals for Bayer were scored by Victor Boniface (12), Exequiel Palacios (29) and Patrik Schick (87). The goal conceded by Sebastian Klaas (83) was less of a problem for the big cup favorites than the injury to international Florian Wirtz, who had to be substituted shortly before the break after being kicked on the heel.
