Rumors swirl about Salihamidžić's potential return to the wild HSV

Hasan Salihamidžić, who was fired as FC Bayern's Head of Sport a year ago, might be making a return to German professional soccer. He's being linked with a club that he's familiar with from his time as a player.

Since his departure from FC Bayern, Salihamidžić has been relatively quiet. Recently, reports suggest that he could be set to rejoin the stage in soccer and take a role at Hamburger SV. The German publication, "Hamburger Abendblatt," reported on Thursday that Salihamidžić is one of the possible candidates to succeed current sports director, Jonas Boldt, at HSV. The decision is expected to be made this week by the supervisory board.

Boldt is once again set to face a review. He needs to explain how HSV missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga this season and provide a strategy for achieving it next year. If his arguments aren't convincing, he could be let go. However, it's still uncertain if he'll be sacked. According to the Abendblatt, if Boldt does lose his job, they'll have "in-depth talks" with Salihamidžić.

Oliver Bierhoff and Jörg Schmadtke have been mentioned as other potential contenders for the position, but both have denied any interest in the role. Ralf Rangnick, the coach of the Austrian national team, and Fabian Wohlgemuth, the sports director of VfB, are also said to be under consideration. Felix Magath, a HSV icon and the favorite of HSV investor and billionaire Klaus-Michael Kühne (86), has also been speculated about.

Whether Salihamidžić sees himself taking on the job at HSV is unclear. Nevertheless, the Bosnian midfielder made his professional debut for Hamburg in the 1995/96 season and progressed further there before joining FC Bayern in the 1998/1999 season.
