Swedish Royal Couple Congratulates Gold Medalists

Especially for the Swedish royal couple, the evening was a great success. They could cheer together with Armand "Mondo" Duplantis (24), who crossed the 6.25-meter mark. This improved his own world record by one centimeter and won him the gold medal. Earlier that day, the king and queen had visited the "Sweden Arena" in the Olympic Village to congratulate swimmer Sarah Sjöström (30) on her two Olympic gold medals.

The Swedish royal couple also published congratulations to the successful athletes on the Swedish palace's Instagram page. The Olympic Games hold a special significance for the couple, as they met at the competitions in Munich in 1972. The then Crown Prince Carl Gustaf is said to have fallen in love with the German Olympic hostess Silvia at first sight.

The Spanish royal house also shared insights on its Instagram page. "The King is in Paris to support the Spaniards competing in the Olympic Games these days." Felipe first visited the Olympic Village, then watched the women's 3x3 basketball game against the USA in the afternoon. He then eagerly awaited the 3000-meter hurdles and the quarterfinal match of the men's football team. Earlier, his wife Letizia (51) and their two daughters had already visited the games in Paris.

Queen Silvia and other royals also expressed their support for the athletes on their respective social media platforms. After witnessing Mondo Duplantis' record-breaking performance at the men's pole vault final, Queen Silvia posted congratulatory messages on the Swedish palace's Instagram page. Similarly, King Felipe VI share insights about his visit to the Olympic Village and his support for the Spanish athletes competing in various events such as basketball and football.
