After days of calculations, the last 16 matches have now been decided. There is one top match, but a surprise seems possible for Austria.

European Football Championship - Round of 16 is set: France meets Belgium

Monday, 18.00 hours in Duesseldorf, Vice-World Champion France faces Mitfavorite Belgium in the Round of 16 of the UEFA European Football Championship in Germany. This was determined by the last group stage matches in Groups E and F. France finished second in their group just like Belgium in Group E.

The expected duel between England and the Netherlands will not come to pass due to the constellation with the best group third-placed teams. Instead, England will face Slovakia.

Switzerland against Italy (Saturday, 18.00 hours in Berlin) and Germany against Denmark (Saturday, 21.00 hours in Dortmund) were already determined as Round of 16 matches before Wednesday. The remaining third-placed teams were assigned as follows: Slovenia against Portugal, Georgia against Spain, the Netherlands against Romania. Austria plays as group winner against Turkey, who secured second place.

Hungary and Croatia are eliminated after the group stage.

  1. Despite finishing second in their respective groups, France and Belgium, both from Group E, have been placed in the same Round of 16 match in Duesseldorf.
